Beyers is a mixed media visual artist, poet and therapist. Her work is suffused with connection to nature, place, deep time and psyche. In the series Bark Nudes, rendered chiefly in monotonal pastels, she evokes the moveable skin of trees as though the sections of bark that are her models were individuals with distinct markings. Collage with textiles and papers is a source of particular joy and fascination offering endless opportunity to create texture and interest. As she has done in other work, in the new series Textile Collage with Roses, Johanna weaves in natural elements.
Beyers’s art is available at Artique Art Gallery. Some of her paintings were showcased in the journal Sage-ing with Creative Spirit, Grace & Gratitude and her poems have appeared there, in CV2, The Capilano Review, Room and elsewhere. She has published a collection of poems, Sandbar Islands (Caitlin, 1986), and a book of nonfiction, Wearing my Feathered Hat (Wind Oak & Dove, 2013). She recently completed a new volume of poems, entitled “What Survives.” Beyers is a graduate of Simon Fraser’s The Writer’s Studio.
