20 | Janet Southcott

Cranberry

This year has been a turning point in the creations that Janet makes. After 10 years of pursuing her artist passion through self-directed learning, she enrolled in a year-long program to dive deeper into the endless possibilities of art. This has resulted in a process of layered mixed media paintings, creations that have more than one focal point, some with a narrative of how Janet sees the world. Abstracts have also crept in, both non-representational and representational in which all sorts of imaginary creatures and worlds can be found.

Janet is a member of Artique Artists Cooperative and her work can be seen on the gallery walls at 6820 Alberni Street. She coordinates a weekly plein air painting group in the spring/summer seasons and indoor painting in the off-season, believing in the power of artist community to bring forward an adaptive and resilient culture. “I paint images of today for the eyes of tomorrow.”

See her previous and new work on display at Cranberry Seniors’ Centre during Studio Tour, and on her website janetandjanet.ca where you can sign up for a seasonal newsletter.
