Janet Southcott

I capture images of today for the eyes of tomorrow using 2D visual art. Often this means paintings in oil or acrylic, however, they could be produced through use of watercolours, pen and ink, charcoal, pastel. I develop a degree of comfort in a medium and then push deeper, experimenting with the unfamiliar to keep my images and interest alive. Landscapes and florals dominate, while still life subjects, animals and people may also attract my attention. I am part of Artique Artists’ Collective, a cooperative organization where together we hold gallery space just off Marine Avenue in Powell River. As a group of up to 30 artists, we motivate and encourage one another while helping to sell each other’s work. I also work with a group of plein air artists, seizing the opportunity of good weather to paint outdoors. Plein air work allows for experimentation, a freshness of perspective, and the need to work quickly to capture elements such as light, weather, shadow and movement. My website, janetandjanet.ca, contains all of my work together with my regular blog, The Artist’s Journey. Contact me at viridianearth@gmail.com or call 604 414 5994.
